Wednesday Wisdom - With Thanks, Make Your Requests Known

“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:6-7

I believe in prayer. When struggling with something, I pray quietly, preferably in the adoration chapel. I benefit from the quiet and the presence of Jesus. It's easy to become distracted with other thoughts during my regular Sunday mass time. Especially when attending with kids. If I find myself searching for an answer or feeling myself getting in a rut, I know it's time for some quiet, devoted prayer. It's a great way to give yourself a reset.

I believe in starting prayer with gratitude. There is always something to be thankful for if you focus on the bigger picture. Things could always be worse. I start with a simple thank you for another day, another wake-up, for time. Time is a precious gift that not everyone gets each day. It's not something I take lightly.

I believe in being patient with your prayers and petitions. There are so many things that we don't understand in this life. It can be very frustrating. The answers don't always come. Sometimes, we must let go of understanding and focus on what we can control in our actions and responses to life's hardships.
