MUN is Fun!!

My oldest participates in the extracurricular Model UN. It is her third full year. I am slowly learning what it is all about. For those that aren't familiar, they participate in "committees" that simulate those of the real United Nations. They do research and present papers, hoping to be the most diplomatic. They form alliances and treaties and go to war; it's a real eye-opening experience. It can be challenging and stressful, especially if you are an executive member, as my daughter is this year. MUN is fun!! That is our mantra when she has a particularly overwhelming week prepping for a big conference.

This has been one of those busy weeks prepping for her first big conference of the school year and giving the opening remarks for the first time. I am so proud of how she presented herself, and I only hope it's a sign that future generations will do better than those of the past—time for a guest author. Enjoy a highlight from her opening remarks!

"Model UN reminds us that we’re not the actual delegates resolving these issues. But as we close this chapter of our lives, it's time that we realize that we could be. Don’t just prewrite and strategize how to manipulate as many delegates as possible. Debate thoughtfully, and passionately. Care about what you have to say. And as each and every one of you goes on to do great things, be careful not to get caught up in the publicity and riches that may come with the job. More than anything, remember the hunger. Never lose sight of why you do the great things you do."
