There Are Worse Things Than Waiting

We've all been there. Waiting in line. Waiting in a lobby. Waiting in traffic. Waiting in the big waiting room to get the chance to wait in the smaller waiting room. Fun times.

One thing I've noticed during my cancer journey is there is a lot of waiting. Sometimes things move quickly and other times it's hurry up....and wait. Today was a longer wait than usual for a routine appointment. So I entertained myself with some Candy Crush and TV Bloopers. There are worse things than waiting.

I would consider myself a patient person, but going through any kind of life crisis can help with your perspective. I will patiently wait and be grateful for the opportunity to wait. There are plenty of people that would love for their family members to have the opportunity for treatments and more time. I don't take it for granted. It is something I am grateful for every day. The gift of more time. Even if some of that time is spent waiting.

Is the line at Costco particularly long? Well, there are worse things than waiting in line with a cart of groceries. I have said this out loud on many occasions. Sometimes I get a weird side look from a fellow shopper, other times I get a knowing nod of agreement.

Is the line at the Lego exhibit wrapped around the building? Well, there are worse things than spending the day in line with my lego loving son. He cannot escape! Enjoy the extra one-on-one time before he disappears into his teenage spot at home.

Waiting in traffic? Enjoy some music and take a breath. Be grateful you are in the position to be driving a car and have somewhere to go.

You get the idea. It's a small thing, but it can make a big difference in how your day goes. You can't control the length of the wait, but you can control how you react to it. There are worse things than waiting.
